Hello

He held onto his mother's skirt, and hid his face behind the fabric. His mother smiled warmly at him.The mother of the young child lightly patted his cardinal red hair as they continued to walked down the hallway. Every step they made echoed in the air. His apple green eyes stared at the walls. They were neatly covered with hand drawn drawings from other children. He was still in awe in this one particular drawing that caught his eye. It was a crayon drawing of a large blue toothpaste and next to it was a little girl holding a toothbrush. She had cerulean blue pigtails and a light blue spring dress.

The boy's mother suddenly stopped and he caught himself from hitting the back of her leg.

His mother smiled sweetly at him and he saw a door in front of him with a picture of a smiley face.

"Toku," she said in a gentle loving voice, "We're here."

The said boy nodded and watched as he mother knocked on the door. He waited eagerly and stared at the door. Toku did not move from his hiding spot. A few seconds passed and he jumped as the door swung back. A young brunette  lady, in her mere twenties, had appeared and welcomed them with kind eyes and a delighted expression.

"Welcome!" She beamed and saw Toku peeking from his mom's skirt. She waved at him,"Well hello there little guy." Toku hid back.

"I'm sorry," the mother laughed a bit and tried to bring her son up front, "Toku is very eager to start today."

The brunette nodded, "It's understandable." She kneeled down to Toku's height and grinned, "You're going to make a lot friends today Toku."

The boy blushed and stared at her. He nodded silently.

The brunnette stood up and talked to his mother while Toku sneaked inside the classroom. It was large and filled with toys and other children. Tables in different shapes and colors where in the middle, most of them were occupied by other kids. One side had cubicles that were already used. The walls were in light hues of red, blue, and green. Toku noticed a large piece of paper on the wall with drawings and scribbles. He smiled at the drawing with the blue girl on the paper. His eyes searched inside the classroom but from where he was standing, he was limited. His mother had a strong grip on his hand, so Toku struggled to get free but no use.

"Don't worry miss! I'll take good care of Toku!" the brunnette insured and his mother gave her Toku's hand.

Toku looked up to see his mother kneeling down to give him a goodbye hug. He received a soft pat on the head and gentle kiss on the forehead. Tears started to fall and he could feel something in his heart. He didnt want to see his mother leave. His heart cringed in pain and he wanted to hold his mother again.

"M-Mama!" Toku sniffled.

"Don't cry now my dear," she gave him another tight hug and whispered in his ear, "You dont want your new friends to see you cry, do you?" He shook his head and his mother cleaned the tears and snot off with a white handkerchief."Be good now Toku. Ms. O'Belle will take care of you while I'm gone. But I'll come back in a few hours, just you wait." she said reassuringly. The red head boy nodded again and tried to smile for her.

He gripped onto the teacher's hand and watched he mother leave.

"Toku, Ms. O'Belle asked kindly to the child, "Do you want to go inside and say hello to your new classmates?" He nodded quietly and gripped tightly. The young teacher led him inside and called for the children's attention. There were about ten or so of them. Toku suddenly went shy and his face turned a bit red.

"This is Toku. Say hi to your new classmate," she intriduced.

"Hiiiii Tokuuu!" the children's voices synced in the welcome.

Toku's green eyes looked up and waved his hand in a shy manner. "H-Hi" he stuttered
before the children dispersed.

The teacher asked the child, "Do you want to play somewhere in the room?"

Toku nodded and looked around the room. He pointed to a small group of children playing with wooden blocks and let go of her hand.

"Be careful okay?" she said but Toku had already left to please his little heart.

This little munchkin saw a little box of wooden blocks and took them out. He laid them out neatly and scratched his head to think of what he could build. The other children watched him nearby but did not say a word.

"What are you going to make?" a little voice asked.

"I dont know...." he answered and brought his eyes up.
In front of him, was the little blue girl. Standing in her blue dress and pigtails tied with yellow ribbons. She had her hands behind her, hiding something and her feet shuffled. But there was a happy expression on her face, cheeks rosy and a large smile.
Summary:
Remember in that shy age of a child, going to preschool and learning how to make friends. Do you remember that little boy or girl across the room, staring at you. Sending that message, "Lets be friends". How we wish to go back to those days...
